I first saw Doug Casey when he debated against the Iraq War and U.S. foreign policy. In this four-person debate, he and Ron Paul were opposed by two staunch supporters of the war. After the others had spoken, Doug stepped up and basically knocked the audience’s socks off.

Doug Casey is one of those rare people that one can accurately describe as “worldly”, having traveled in 175 countries, and having actually lived in twelve countries. He has authored many articles and essays which are scattered across the internet. Thanks to his wide-ranging experience and deep knowledge of history, his perspective never fails to be interesting and often educational.
I was particularly taken aback when I stumbled upon one article from August 2, 2001 (one month before September 11th), where Doug essentially made a case that the U.S. would be facing a major crisis in the form of an overseas war, initiated by a terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

Iran’s President Ahmadinejad never threatened to “wipe Israel off the map,” this was a terrible and false translation. This is not a new revelation; here’s an article from January describing the absurdity of this:
To claim Ahmadinejad has issued a rallying cry to ethnically cleanse Israel is akin to saying that Churchill wanted to murder all Germans when he stated his desire to crush the Nazis. This is about the demise of a corrupt occupying power, not the deaths of millions of innocent people.
Ms. Rice no doubt knows “wipe Israel off the map” is a powerful piece of propaganda, but surely she must realize that it’s utterly false? How can she continue to perpetuate that myth? And if she doesn’t know that it’s false… how is that possible?! How could a policy maker make intelligent decisions while lacking command of such basic information?
Without a bulwark of basic journalistic skepticism, a lot of garbage can be firmly lodged into the public consciousness. All it takes is a little repetition.
Ron Paul gave a great interview on the popular show “Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code”.
He starts out by answering the shocking questions: What is a republic and what is a democracy? What is the USA?
Going beyond the simple 30-second sound-bite, Ron Paul gets a chance to answer in more depth, and I think you will be impressed. He also shares some very thoughtful and realistic ideas regarding abortion and Roe vs. Wade, the Second Amendment, and more.

The Constitution grants the power to declare war only to the Congress. Before the decision was made to invade Iraq, the Congress voted to transfer their power to declare war to the president. That was wrong(1). The Constitution does not authorize Congress to transfer this power to the president. President Bush, supported by Vice-president Cheney have made it their goal to “pass on their offices in better shape than they found them”, meaning with enormously increased powers, and answerable to no one. (2)
Let’s blame this on the Republicans! Bring in a Democrat; (s)he can surely correct this, right?
Wrong. Would the Democrats be quick to give up newly created powers? Republicans and Democrats are generally two heads of the same monster, products of the same machine. See how comfortable a Democrat might become with the “unitary executive” theory once they were sitting in that throne. Power corrupts.
What politician has the strength of will to enter office and systematically dismantle that office’s powers? That sounded like an unfortunately hopeless question… until Ron Paul showed up.
Ron Paul had a novel idea: return America to the American form of government. You know, that constitutional form of government that has slowly been ignored and twisted over the last century by the very people who were so carefully sworn to protect it.
